Two short poems

Written for and published in “Hallows to Harvest”, September 2018, Cinnamon Press.

Shortest Day

December
freewheels headlong
through flying leaves
down to the dark hollow
at the bend in the road
a stream to cross
tyres skittering
on thin ice

Vernal

sleet and fickle sun
and the yells of herring-gulls
wind from the north-east
