Wednesday in Exeter
I made another brief visit to Exeter this week for a couple of meetings. The first was in connection with a forthcoming exhibition of “Absence and Presence” prints in the city next spring. This is the latest phase of the Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here project, and the first to which I have not contributed, so I was very glad to be there to support Catherine and Nina as they introduced the project to a very engaged and enthusiastic team of library workers at their weekly 9am staff meeting.
Catherine and I then met with some of the team at Kaleider to finalise details of our contribution to the Ancient Sunlight book. In under an hour the four of us arrived at a happy unanimity that might have taken dozens of e-mails to achieve. There’s nothing quite like meeting face to face and handling the mock-up of The Book!
We met up with Nina again for coffee at the Glorious Art House in Fore Street. It certainly lives up to its name!
A little reading-corner at the turn of the stair:
There were working felt clocks by Rosy Tydeman. This one is six feet tall …
In a second-floor gallery we saw some handmade felt and works in laser-cut paper by Francesca Lindsay-White. This is a “Standing Stone” felt cushion.
Then a brisk walk along the river in spring sunshine back to the station.
